[ Regarding sardines ]
OK, so I guess you can eat them with olives on the side instead of chips. They're good, although not as good as if they were in olive oil. But the flavor and texture is just so strong together that you just HAVE to eat something else with them ... Usually something else really salty, for some reason, but with a different texture. Eating them with olives I even put salt on the olives. Its only one sardine, so its OK. Potato chips, they have to be plain, kettle chips. Crackers won't do. Olives make it kind of like a very lovecraftian and grotto-y meal, like something that'd be eaten by a half human deep one in the dark in a smelly, salty house in Kingsport, MA . They go really well with potato chips. I guess, probably fried toast with an egg or hash browns would be acceptable too. I'd probably eat a lot more of them and never tire of them except for the concern about exposure to lead and mercury ... Theyre like ... Tastier than you would think something so cheap and filthy should be , eating it feels like some kind of british gutter delicacy. It makes me want to go back to eel, I used to like the texture of eel , not so much the taste like , but it has this really fibrous texture thats not bad.
